Exercises

So other than riding my stationary bike, I have two sets of exercises I'm allowed to do (anything more would potentially make my meniscus injury worse). So I do straight leg lifts, lifting my leg up from the hip, toe pointed up. And then I can do heel slides, leg extended out, toe pointed up, slowly drag heel toward butt, working to get knee to 90 degrees (which I can do!!). Do each 10-15 times, three sets. I can do them both easily, at least for the first two sets, but by the time the third one comes around, it's much harder! It's amazing to think that it's that difficult, but it is! I didn't realize just how weak my poor leg is. The ultimate goal before surgery is to get full extension of leg (180 degrees flat) and then also a 90 degree bend at the knee. I'm able to do both now, but just need to make sure that doesn't change before June 4.

Last night Ben and I were watching a show about the Everest disaster of 1996 and I was doing my exercises while watching TV. Ben looked over and said, "Are you seriously doing that now?" to which I responded, "Yes, why not?" Apparently, it was VERY distracting for him, watching me lift my leg up and down. Usually he's so tuned in to the tube I can do and say just about anything without getting much of a response. I think I'll try again tonight to see how distracting it really is for him. I figure too, that after surgery, he'll be seeing many more of these exercises, so he's just going to have to get used to it. I like testing him sometimes. Isn't it normal to get some enjoyment out of annoying your significant other, especially for a legit reason?
